At Organised Human we develop our pulse survey products to enable organisations and individuals to grow.
We combine coding cleverness with organisational experience and psychological knowledge, so that Friihday contains relevant elements, built on solid behavioural principles.
Choosing one of our unique pulse survey tools means that you’re making a commitment to people, in a demonstrable and diligent way.
Here is a sample of the things we like, use and pay attention to:
Individuals like to belong. Belonging is a basic human need and easily overlooked. Employees want to belong to an organisation that cares about them. Clients want to know that they’re valued and that they belong in your world.
Asking your staff, clients, or user groups, how their week has been shows an interest. It’s the Hawthorne Effect in action. So easy to do and so powerful.
The Hawthorne Effect was so named in 1958 by Henry A. Landsberger, who had been studying the results of work done between 1924 and 1932 at the Hawthorne Works, in Illinois, USA. This research, lead by Elton Mayo, concluded that there was an increase in performance of individuals who are noticed, watched and paid attention to.
Eric Berne, who is the founder of Transactional Analysis (TA), commented that leaders need to provide their teams with structure, recognition and stimulation, in order for them to succeed. Friihday specifically asks people if their boss has said thank you to them this week.
A recent organisational survey by Google showed the key factor which made a difference to an employee’s sense of satisfaction was indeed their boss saying thank you to them. Google confirmed what Eric Berne said back in 1966, in his book The Structure & Dynamics of Organizations & Groups. We like that.
TA also looks at accounting. This means psychologically, rather than financially. When we account for things we notice them, generate options and do things differently. Friihday enables people to account for their week, by encouraging reflection.
Our products also use nudge theory in simple practical ways to encourage people to improve their performance. Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein brought the idea into the public domain with their book Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth & Happiness (2008).
For example with the Business Friihday tool, users get to see their results, compared to a general population. If their productivity falls below the group then there is a strong nudge to improve. We also embed coaching questions too, so that each week they have a little nudge to encourage their thinking. This also builds on research which suggests humans are inspired to improve their performance when they are able to compare themselves to others. When you’re working from home, life can be isolating, so a comparison is a good thing.
Our view is that small nudges add up over time. Our products are full of nudges.
Friihday creates information and awareness. It affirms people’s sense of belonging. It nudges them. It keeps you in contact with them. It shows you care. Please contact us today for more information
